I’m ready to begin blogging for Survivor Samoa. Right here on CBS’s website, (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/), they have announced the cast, and they have announced that unlike what they said, back in the spring about having eighteen survivors, there are twenty this time, so I expect a final three to be in play. Here is the promo that explains that this season of Survivor welcomes us the “biggest villain ever”. (http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/survivor_samoa/2009_Aug_26_samoa_preview) So, without further ado, I will announce these twenty Survivors, and based off of first impressions, see if they have any potential to go very far.

ASHLEY - She’s a 22 year old spa sales rep from Maple Grove, Minnesota. She’s described in her bio she’s extremely flirty, which in Survivor, we see work out some times (Like for Parvati) or not at all (like for Sydney). So, it’s hard to tell how her flirting strategy will work out. Anyways, she’s young, and nice looking, and very bubbly, like BBUS11 Jordan, so I can see myself liking her.

BEN - He’s a 28 year old “mixologist” from Los Angeles, California. First off, I think this guy must know Memphis from BBUS10, as I thought it was just his word, but apparently, it’s the new LA work for bartender. I really see him as a strong competitor, who looks like he’ll be a hard worker. I really like how he is into motorcycles, and knowing that’s a turn on for some women, maybe flirty Ashley is looking for the bad boy type.

BETSY - She’s a 48 year old police officer from Campton, New Hampshire. Yup, New Hampshire gets represented this time, since season two, and I really hopes she makes my birth state proud. Anyways, she looks like she could be one of the stronger older females that we have, so I actually have high hopes for her. Go Betsy, make New Hampshire look less embarrassing, unlike Debb Eaton.

BRETT - He’s a 23 year old T-Shirt designer from Los Angeles, California. He is described to be very flirty, and says that’ll be one of his biggest assets in the game. When I first saw him, he reminded me of this diehard Survivor fan type, instead he claims he’s very funny. I can see him looking like one of the okay Survivors, but I don’t see him standing out at all yet.

DAVE - He’s a 38 year old fitness instructor from Los Angeles, California, which so far, he’s the third Californian I’ve seen today. He looks like he’ll be one of those types who will cause conflict, he almost could very well be this biggest villain CBS talked about. Either that, or I do see him making it far, and being a good, decent player to the game, though.

ELIZABETH - She’s a 33 year old South Korean Attorney from New York City, New York, who isn’t sure if she’s going to tell these other Survivors she’s an attorney. She seems like she’ll remind me of Shii Ann, which could be great, as Shii Ann was one of my all-time favourites. She looks like she’ll be in good condition socially, physically, and mentally stable enough to do well.

ERIK - He’s a 28 year old Bartender from Ontario, California. This guy really concerns me, and I hope they vote him off, as he claims he’s a “proud womanizer” who can date four to five women with no problem. I hope all of the men feel intimidated by him, and they choose to vote him out, because I don’t like men like that. Anyways, I also hope the women don’t all want to be with him, otherwise we’d be watching a troubled season.

JAISON - He’s a 28 year old Law Student from Chicago, Illinois. He’s famous for climbing up to Angel Falls in Venezuela, and wanting to climb Mount Everest, then snowboard all the way down. He really looks like a very intelligent, adventurous guy who could do very well in this game, but I’m not sure if he name is pronounced “Jason” just with an “I”, or if it’s pronounced differently. Anyways, I really see him doing well, or becoming a huge fan favourite on this season.

JOHN - He’s a 25 year old rocket scientist from Los Angeles, California who has traveled to various parts of the world, including Canada, South Africa, South America, and Europe, and plans on using his worldly diversity to get ahead in the game, which I don’t think I’ve seen before, so this could be interesting. He seems like he’ll be a strong athletic competitor, but I don’t know if he’ll be one of the best.

KELLY - She’s a 25 year old hairstylist from Los Angeles, but was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, which is the crappy state I currently reside in! She seems like she isn’t cut out for this, and I don’t see much from her, but she is pretty hot, to say something good about her. Since she’s Delaware’s first, I hope she doesn’t embarrass that state, unlike Dan/Andrew (TAR13).

LAURA - She’s a 39 year old Office Manager from Salem, Oregon. She claims to be the fit version of Sarah Palin, and is a very conservative Christian, and is also the first Hawaiian descendant female (Brad S13, the first male). She has kids, and for a young age, has grandkids. I really like the fact she’s a sister in Christ, but I hope she plays the game spiritually smart, if at all possible, yet. Laura is probably going to be one of my early show favourites, but I will try not to really pick a pre show favourite, because last time I did (with Candace) it didn’t work out.

MARISA - She’s a 26 year old student from Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a hard farm worker who has studied abroad in places like El Salvador and Spain. I think she will be the boring chick who I won’t remember after this season. However, who knows, I said the same thing about Erinn last season. She is pretty beautiful, though.

MICK - He’s a 33 year old Doctor from Los Angeles, California. Again, this over usage of Los Angeles residents is getting to be annoying. Mick seems like the smart guy, who will probably be a strategic threat, if anything. However, he just looks like one of the Survivors I’ll always feel neutral about. I don’t expect too much from him at all really.

MIKE - He’s a 62 year old personal chef from Marina Del Rey, California. He’s the oldest Survivor this season, so that’s an automatic hindrance to these challenges, a strategy dating all the way back to season one (Sonja). I also thinks he reminds me of Dr. Phil. Him being a huge fan of the show, at his age, I’m glad at least he took the effort to at least get into shape by losing thirty pounds.

MONICA - She’s a 25 year old Law Student from San Diego, California. She’s described as exotic and flirty, and claims to be much like Parvati & Amanda from Survivor: Micronesia. I’m not sure if she’s biracial, but she’s also attractive. However, I don’t know where she’ll stand in the game, and I hope she’s not like Paloma or Carolina through.

NATALIE - She’s a 26 year old Pharmaceutical sales rep from Van Buren, Arkansas. She’s the southern belle type who claims to be very competitive. She however, looks also very boring, and I sense there will be more boring people this season, as we are seeing twenty people. I’ll explain more of that later. She’s also attractive too, so that’s a plus.

RUSSELL H. - He’s a 36 year old Multi-Millionaire Oil Company owner from Dayton, Texas. He says he’s not out to make friends, which nobody is, unless you’re on Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, but he says everyone will want to be his friend. I don’t know if the everyone’s hero strategy will work again, but hey, it worked for JT, so it could happen.

RUSSELL S. - He’s a 42 year old attorney from Glenside, Pennsylvania. He says he’s going to cut off his dreadlocks if he wins Survivor, but let’s just hope they don’t have that performed on the reunion show. This is also like , the fourth person in the law field so far this season. He looks like he’ll be an OK Survivor, I don’t know how I feel about him just yet.

SHANNON - She’s a 45 year old ex marine, now a sales rep from Renton, Washington. She seems committed to her work, and plans to be committed to Survivor. As this season’s oldest woman, I think she’s actually more of a fighting chance type of woman, like Twila. She also looks like an ok, player though. I think she’s got a better shot than what Gillian and Sandy had.

YASMIN - She’s a 33 year old hairstylist from Los Angeles, California. With a nickname like Sassy Yassy, she could be very well sassy, and I actually don’t have a problem with that kind of attitude, as long as it’s not a stereotype. Yasmin seems like the type who’ll be one of the most respected Survivors of the season, I don’t know why though.
This season is not good with statewide diversity, as this season has ten people from California, which is half the cast, and has, like four people in law fields. I really think there’s a great deal of good cast members, the one Survivor I’m skeptical about is Erik, the “proud womanizer”. I also don’t like the fact we’re getting twenty Survivors, simply because all of the Seasons with more than eighteen Survivors (Palau, Cook Islands, Fiji, Micronesia), we get a lot of boring, under edited people.
I would have to say that the three women who stood out the most are Betsy (NH Pride), Laura (Christian Pride), and Elizabeth (Potential Shii Ann?). I would have to say my three favourite guys of this pre-show are Russell H., Brett, and Jaison. I think one of those six could be potential winners. I would say I hope the women do well this season, and not get to flirtatious like what three of them said in their bios. Anyways, this looks like it could be a very good season, I just hope the fact it has twenty people on it isn’t such a bad thing.
While reading the Survivor post on Reality Blurred, I learned there’s a Chief twist revealed, where in contrast to voting a team member out based on first impressions. They’ll probably tie it into Samoan culture. The tribes get to vote for one member to be a chief on their tribe. I think that’s a nice twist, because it’s prefect in changing someone’s strategy, and this twist should do this big time, as long as nobody pulls a GC and quits their leadership position. I really think this is going to be a fun t\season. There’s no word out on whom I can predict as the Survivors’ biggest villain to date yet, nor can I tell if this chief twist will lead to that.
