I’m A Celebrity, Get me out of here! (U.S. series) Will Return

Six years after in disappeared from the United States, I’m a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here, the American version, will return this summer, this time broadcasted by NBC. It will air nearly daily for a month, the month of June. The show will broadcast from Monday’s to Thursday’s. America will be the puppet master, controlling people being put into tasks, and then America will be televoting off the Celebrities. Viewers will be televoting people to do tasks, win luxuries, and eventually, decide who stays and who goes. The network wanted to bring back the series, since apparently, six years ago back in 2003, it didn’t work out with ABC. The Winning celebrity gets money for charity. The show was sued in the U.S. for being too derivative to Survivor.

I know this is one of the shows Graham follows, and follows with the UK version, which has made eight seasons, going on nine. I’m curious to know, is this show any good there in the U.K.? I am sure it didn’t work out too well for the U.S., considering it was canceled, but maybe, since it was wanted back, NBC thinks it can be better. Until this year, with American Idol 8, I haven’t followed up with a televoting show for a long time, probably since Rock Star: Supernova. I’m real curious to see which celebrities, and probably Reality Stars, will get the chance to be on it. My favourite, Paris Hilton, would always be an excellent choice for choosing someone to be stuck in a jungle.

Here’s some links, one from Reality Blurred, a sight I’ve been reading about for a couple of years. Remember, you can always contact me, or email me at mapleleaf_melee18@hotmail.com

I'm looking forward to watching this. I'm a fan of the UK version, but it is basically the same thing every series - celebrities doing tasks, eating bugs and then being voted off. It'll be interesting to see if the new USA producers will add anything new to the show.

It's held it's audience pretty well in the UK, although personally I stopped watching it a few years ago as I found it very repetitive series on series. The hosts Ant and Dec absolutely carry the show, and without them I don't think it could continue - so getting the right hosts in place is crucial.

One area where it'll probably suffer in the US is the complete lack of gameplay. It's 100% controlled by the viewer, so no opportunity for any dirty tricks and tactical play, a staple of US reality shows. It therefore has to survive on purely an entertainment basis - and to be honest as it didn't the first time I don't see why it would be any different this time.
